“Raphinha Matches Ronaldo’s Legendary Champions League Record”

Barcelona’s Brazilian star Raphinha has continued to shine in the 2024-25 season, matching Cristiano Ronaldo’s legendary Champions League goal contribution record. His second-half goal against Inter Milan in Tuesday’s semi-final second leg at the San Siro brought his tally to 21 contributions, 13 goals and 8 assists, mirroring Ronaldo’s record set with Real Madrid in the 2013-14 season.

While Ronaldo reached the milestone in 11 games, Raphinha accomplished it in 14 matches, showcasing his remarkable impact despite Barcelona’s late extra-time defeat that ended their Champions League run. The loss marked Barcelona’s eighth semi-final exit in the competition, and the club has failed to reach the final in four of their last five semi-final appearances.

Raphinha’s 2024-25 campaign has been historic beyond this achievement. He set records for most goal contributions in a single season by a Barcelona player and by a Brazilian player, while also putting himself firmly in the Ballon d’Or conversation.

Reacting on social media after the defeat, Raphinha wrote: “We will come back stronger… Thanks to everyone’s support culers … we are still together… The season ain’t over yet. Every day that passes, I’m more proud to wear these colours, proud of this team. Long live Barça always.”

The goal against Inter Milan was Raphinha’s 32nd of the season, as Barcelona have already secured the Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup.

With the Champions League campaign over, the focus now shifts to La Liga and the upcoming El Clasico. A victory over Real Madrid would give Barcelona a seven-point lead with just three games remaining, keeping their domestic treble hopes alive.
