Mohammed Kudus: Qualification Is All That Matters for World Cup

Ghana midfielder Mohammed Kudus has emphasized that the Black Stars’ primary objective is to secure qualification for the next FIFA World Cup, insisting that the route taken to reach the tournament is secondary to achieving the goal itself.
The 23-year-old West Ham United star has been a key figure for the Black Stars in recent years and has featured prominently in Ghana’s competitive fixtures, including the ongoing World Cup qualifiers. Kudus played 88 minutes in Ghana’s recent match against Mali, helping the team secure a vital 2–1 victory that significantly boosted their qualification hopes.
Ahead of their next Group I fixture against the Central African Republic, Kudus expressed strong belief in the team’s ability to reach the World Cup.
“The belief has always been there. We all want to go to the World Cup, that is our ultimate goal,” Kudus said. “It doesn’t matter how we get there. The coach has his tactics, and sometimes games get tougher, but we just have to do our best and get the results.”
The midfielder also highlighted the importance of collective effort over individual accolades.
“Personally, in every game, whether in Ghana or Europe, my motivation is the same—to win. We are all a team. Whether I score or someone else does, it’s about team play. We started preparing in Ghana before travelling, so there is no excuse. I just try to do my best to help the team win,” he added.
At the time of speaking, Ghana sat third in Group I, level on points with Madagascar and Comoros, who occupied first and second place respectively. Victory in their upcoming fixture would see the Black Stars move to the top of the group, pending the outcomes of other matches in the round.
With qualification still finely balanced, Kudus and his teammates remain focused on delivering results and keeping Ghana firmly on course for a return to football’s biggest stage.
