“Mbappé Hat-Trick Sinks Manchester City in Champions League Thriller”

Manchester City’s Champions League campaign came to a humiliating end at the Santiago Bernabeu, as Kylian Mbappé produced a stunning hat-trick to power holders Real Madrid into the last 16.
City were attempting to overturn a 3-2 deficit from the first-leg playoff, but the contest was effectively over within four minutes when Mbappé’s precise lob from Raul Asencio’s pass put Real ahead.
The reigning Premier League champions’ woes deepened when defender John Stones was forced off injured shortly after Mbappé’s opener, and Erling Haaland was only fit enough to remain on the bench.
Mbappé’s second, a masterclass in close control, saw him wrong-foot Josko Gvardiol before finishing past Ederson in the 33rd minute. His third, a low drive just after the hour mark, sealed a dominant display as City were outclassed from start to finish.
City managed a late consolation through Nico Gonzalez, who turned in his first goal for the club after Omar Marmoush’s free-kick struck the bar, but it did little to ease the pain on a desperate night for Pep Guardiola’s side.
The defeat marked City’s earliest Champions League exit since 2012-13, when they failed to advance from the group stage, and served as a stark reminder of the gulf between them and Europe’s elite.
For Guardiola, the result was particularly painful given his Barcelona past, with Real Madrid fans reveling in his discomfort. The City manager now faces the monumental task of rebuilding and restoring Manchester City’s European credentials.
