Randy Abbey Confident Black Stars Will Secure World Cup Qualification

Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council member, Dr. Randy Abbey, has reaffirmed the association’s commitment to ensuring that the Black Stars qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ghana boosted their qualification hopes with a spirited comeback victory over Mali in Bamako, a result that has strengthened belief within the camp ahead of their next Group I fixture against the Central African Republic (CAR).

Speaking in an interview with Akoma FM, Dr. Abbey expressed confidence that the win over Mali would further motivate the team as they prepare to face CAR on Monday.

“Our win over Mali clearly improves our chances and gives us a lot of confidence as we get ready to play the next game against CAR. Our objective as an FA remains the same—to qualify for the 2026 World Cup,” he said.

Dr. Abbey also commended supporters in Kumasi for their unwavering support at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium and urged them to rally behind the team once again when Ghana hosts CAR.

“The fans in Kumasi have been excellent, and we expect them to even do more. On Monday, we want to see the stadium full, and we know we will give them something to celebrate,” he added.

According to Abbey, a victory against the Central African Republic would significantly enhance Ghana’s chances of reaching the World Cup.

“We will eventually achieve the desired outcome, which is to win, and that will increase our chances of qualification,” he stated.

Ghana currently sits third in Group I, but a win over CAR would propel the Black Stars to the top of the table for the first time in the qualifiers, further strengthening their push for a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
