Ghana Poised for 2026 World Cup Qualifying Draw

Ghana are set to discover their 2026 World Cup qualifying opponents on Thursday, July 13, when the African draw takes place in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. The event will be broadcast live on CAF digital platforms and CAFONLINE.com at 15:00 GMT, following the 45th CAF Ordinary Assembly.

During the draw, African nations will be divided into nine groups. The winners of each group will qualify automatically for the 2026 World Cup, while the four best runners-up will compete in a CAF play-off tournament, with the winner advancing to the FIFA intercontinental play-offs.

The Black Stars have been placed in Pot 2, meaning they could face some of Africa’s strongest teams, including long-time rivals Nigeria, as well as Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, Senegal, Tunisia, Cameroon, Mali, and Ivory Coast.

CAF Qualifying Pots:

  • Pot 1: Nigeria, Morocco, Senegal, Algeria, Tunisia, Cameroon, Mali, Egypt, Ivory Coast

  • Pot 2: Ghana, Burkina Faso, South Africa, Cape Verde, DR Congo, Guinea, Zambia, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea

  • Pot 3: Angola, Benin, Kenya, Mauritania, Congo, Uganda, Madagascar, Guinea-Bissau, Namibia

  • Pot 4: Mozambique, Gambia, Sierra Leone, Togo, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Central African Republic, Malawi, Libya

  • Pot 5: Niger, Comoros, Sudan, Rwanda, Burundi, Ethiopia, Eswatini, Botswana, Liberia

  • Pot 6: Lesotho, South Sudan, Mauritius, Chad, Sao Tome, Djibouti, Seychelles, Eritrea, Somalia

Ghana will be aiming to qualify for their fifth World Cup, having previously appeared in 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2022. With a challenging yet manageable pool of potential opponents, the Black Stars hope to secure a spot in the tournament co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
