Thomas-Asante and Sulemana Included in Ghana’s Squad for World Cup Qualifiers

Ghana’s Black Stars have welcomed two new faces to their squad ahead of the crucial 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic: Brandon Thomas-Asante of West Bromwich Albion and Ibrahim Sulemana of Cagliari.
Brandon Thomas-Asante, 25, has been in impressive form for West Brom this season, scoring 11 goals and providing two assists in 41 appearances across all competitions. With a goal and assist ratio of 0.31 per game, Thomas-Asante has earned his first call-up to the senior national team and could make his debut in either of the upcoming qualifiers.
Ibrahim Sulemana has been a key figure for Cagliari in Serie A, contributing two goals from a deeper midfield role in 21 appearances this season. His inclusion comes at an opportune time, as Ghana’s defensive midfield options are limited due to injuries to Baba Iddrisu and Majeed Ashimeru. Sulemana now has the chance to make his mark on the Black Stars senior team.
The pair will join 24 other players in the squad, with Arsenal’s Thomas Partey set to lead the team in their pursuit of Ghana’s first victory of the year. The upcoming qualifiers present a critical opportunity for the Black Stars to strengthen their World Cup campaign and reassert themselves as one of Africa’s top footballing nations.
