Kudus eyes international break after Spurs’ first Premier League defeat

Mohammed Kudus, the talented Ghanaian midfielder at Tottenham Hotspur, has opened up about the significance of international duty, especially in the midst of a busy football season.
Following Spurs’ narrow 1-0 victory against Bournemouth at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Kudus shared his thoughts with Tottenham media, shedding light on how he balances the demands of club football with representing his country.
For Kudus, playing for the national team is not just an obligation; it’s a privilege.
“I think playing for your country is also a massive part of us being players, representing your nation. So it’s very, very important to me,” he said.
His words reflect the deep pride he takes in wearing the Ghanaian jersey, a sentiment echoed by many players who view international breaks as a chance to honor their heritage.
While the club season remains intense, Kudus sees the international breaks as an opportunity to reset. “I think after the loss today, it’s good to get our way to refresh our mind and then come back fresh again,” he added.
His words resonate with many players who often face mental and physical fatigue after several weeks of non-stop action. The chance to step away from the grind, even for a brief period, can help rejuvenate both the body and the mind.
Despite the challenges that come with a quick interruption in the season, Kudus views the international break in a positive light.
“I see it in a positive way, even though it’s a quick break in the season. But I look at it in a positive way of going away, different energy, different setup, play, represent your country, be proud and then come back with the positivity for continuous games, because it’s going to be games after games after,” he explained.
His perspective highlights the importance of balancing ambition with mental well-being, especially during a season where fixtures come thick and fast. After playing for his country, Kudus believes that the energy and confidence gained will fuel him for the challenges ahead at Tottenham.
With the September internationals fast approaching, Kudus will be eager to take on a key role as the Black Stars aim to extend their lead in Group I.
Currently, Ghana sits at the top of Group I, with a three-point advantage over second-place Comoros.
Next up is an away fixture against Chad on September 4, followed by a challenging home encounter with Mali.
