Mohammed Salisu earns spot in UEFA Champions League Team of the Week

Ghanaian defender Mohammed Salisu has been named in UEFA’s Champions League Gameweek Two Team of the Week following a standout performance for AS Monaco. The centre-back scored his first-ever goal in the competition, and his first for Monaco, heading in from a corner in the 75th minute to spark a dramatic comeback in Zagreb.
Salisu’s strike set the stage for Denis Zakaria to convert a late penalty, securing a 2-2 draw against Dinamo Zagreb and preserving Monaco’s unbeaten start to the Champions League, which began with a 2-1 win over Barcelona.
Recognized for his defensive solidity as well as his goal-scoring heroics, Salisu was named alongside PSV’s Ryan Flamingo as the central defensive pairing. Atalanta’s Davide Zappacosta (LB), Lille’s Tiago Santos (RB), and Aston Villa’s goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez completed the Team of the Week backline.
The accolade highlights Salisu’s growing influence at Monaco and his vital role in both defense and attack as the Black Stars defender continues to impress on Europe’s biggest stage.
Monaco travel to Rennes in the French Ligue 1 as they look to go neck-and-neck with joint-table toppers PSG.
