FIFA Awards 2027 Women’s World Cup Hosting Rights to Brazil

FIFA has officially awarded Brazil the hosting rights for the 2027 Women’s World Cup, marking the first time a South American nation will stage the prestigious tournament.
The decision was made following an open vote at FIFA’s congress in Bangkok, where Brazil secured 119 votes, surpassing the 78 votes garnered by the joint bid from the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany (BNG).
FIFA President Gianni Infantino congratulated Brazil on their successful bid, saying, “Congratulations to Brazil. We will have the best World Cup in Brazil. Many thanks as well to the BNG bid, who have been fantastic.”
Both bids were evaluated as technically sound, considering stadium infrastructure, accommodation, fan zones, and transportation. Brazil’s higher technical scores ultimately secured their selection as the host nation.
The 2027 edition will feature the 32-team format introduced in the 2023 tournament in Australia and New Zealand, where Spain triumphed over England in the final. Brazil, nicknamed the “Female Canaries,” will aim to win their first-ever Women’s World Cup on home soil, taking advantage of the familiar surroundings and passionate local support.
The tournament, however, will be without Brazil’s legendary forward Marta, who recently retired from international football.
Brazil previously hosted the men’s World Cup in 1950 and 2014 and now prepares to showcase its ability to organize a major women’s football event. The 2027 Women’s World Cup promises to be a landmark tournament, offering players and fans alike a memorable experience in the heart of South America.
