Ampem Darkoa Ladies secure spot in CAF Women’s Champions League knockout stage

Ampem Darkoa Ladies have booked their place in the CAF Women’s Champions League following a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Nigeria’s Delta Queens in the WAFU B Women’s Champions League qualifiers final on Thursday in Benin City.

The decisive moment came in the 42nd minute when Ophelia Serwaa Amponsah seized a rebound to score her second goal of the tournament, giving the Techiman-based side the edge they needed to secure qualification.

This triumph marks Ampem Darkoa’s successful second attempt at qualification, having fallen short last year after losing to Bayelsa Queens in the final. Nancy Amoh’s outstanding performance earned her the Woman of the Match award, while Mary Amponsah finished the tournament as top scorer with an impressive tally of eight goals in four matches.

With this victory, Ampem Darkoa Ladies become the second Ghanaian team to feature in the CAF Women’s Champions League, joining Hasaacas Ladies, who competed in the inaugural edition in 2021 but were defeated by South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns in the final.

The team now look forward to representing Ghana on the continental stage, aiming to make a significant impact in the competition.
